Defiant Heart

Her eyes darted towards the door!
Time and again,
Nonchalant she wasn’t, but –
She did feign.

He wouldn’t come today,
Scolded the brain again –
Defiant heart she had and,
It wouldn’t just listen!

Class was about to begin!
Yet, he was nowhere in sight –
He won’t come, he has exams,
consoled the brain alright.

Suddenly the screen lit up,
Flashing his name –
Her heart did a happy-dance,
Without any shame.

Surgery was the best exam!
The text shouted with glee –
Tonight he would sleep better,
He deserved that, didn’t he?

Stop staring the door with hope,
Chided the brain again.
Defiant heart she had and,
It wouldn’t just listen!
